SCUBA Diving Destinations: Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf

The Gulf of Oman connects the Arabian Sea to its southeast with the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz. The best diving areas here are in Oman. There is also diving to be had in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The northerly Arabian Gulf is very shallow - its average depth being only 35 m. This means that the sea temperature fluctuates greatly around the coast from about 10 oC in winter to as much as 35oC in summer. It is also very salty due to high evaporation and low rainfall. A combination of these factors explains the relatively few species in this area. Which is why the better diving is further south.

We regularly add new areas to the SCUBA Travel site. If you want to be notified of updates to the site, along with other SCUBA diving news and discussion, please subscribe to our newsletter: SCUBA News (ISSN 1476-8011).
