Top Ten Dive Sites
==================

Thanks to all of you who have told us about your favourite
dive sites. The current top ten list is at
http://www.scubatravel.co.uk/topdives.html

Special thanks to the keen British diver who is getting
more and more irate that none of his dives have been
included.
"I remain deeply hurt by the lack of interest in my dive
sites - usual lack of enthusiasm for the superb British
Diving we are privileged to enjoy"

So, here they are: possibly some of the worst recreational
diving in the world.
1. Saint Annes Drift Dive
"Superb drift in on the tide across the sandy bay. Drop in
as the tide begins to rush in and glide over the sandy
bottom FANTASTIC if you are lucky you can even beach
    yourself by the car park!"
2. Skipton open cast mine PIT
"As the winter arrives this is an excellent inland dive
site - can be a little sooty but ideal alternative on a
   tempestuous day"
3. Pebbles at Cockermouth
"An excellent and exciting drift dive following the pebble
beach south of Cockermouth. Ideal at High tide! Interesting
   warm patch by Seascale village"
4. Humber Estuary Shipping lane
"Dive the Port side navigation buoy, excellent summer evening
dive, sandy bottom with lots of Lobworms and rusty metal bits.
Can be a bit noisy but worth it!"
5. Anglesey Mud Flats

British Isles, see our page on diving the Booroo in the Isle
of Man.

Cousteau Society Petition Kofi Annan
The Cousteau Society, founded by Jaques Cousteau,
are petitioning for greater global efforts to
protect the environment. Signed by 9 million people
from more than 100 countries, the society would
like the petition to be made part of the UN charter.

Bad Weather Could be Forecast Months Ahead
American researchers believe they have found the key
to accurate long-range bad-weather forecasts, at least
in the northern hemisphere. They have have found strong
correlations between nasty weather and changes in air
circulation in the stratosphere. A boon to picking the
the best week for your diving expedition.

Certification Scheme Protects Coral Reefs
The Marine Aquarium Council are promoting a voluntary
certification program to encourage trade in aquarium
fish that have not been caught using poison or
explosives. This should reduce the damage caused to
coral reef fish stocks by the aquarium trade, which
can only be good news for divers.
