Run by marine archeologist, Mario Galasso, provides help in finding a place to stay. Can also assist in finding a base for studies in underwater archeology and in ancient red coral fishering (Mario Galasso is a specialist in this). Provide guests with an extremely specialised library on underwater archeology and field archeology. They also offer the possibility to work with them if, during the time of vacation, there's an opening in underwater work. In addition they offer the use of local diving centres, boats and zodiacs for diving along the coasts of Riviera del Corallo. English, French, German and Spanish (Castellano) spoken.

Part of the profits from the B&B network contribute to the employment of students working in the field. Mario Galasso is currently working on a post medieval shipwreck in south east Corsica with DRASSM (France) and DEGUWA (Germany), as scientist responsable for the chargement of Montelupo glazed pottery of a typology not yet studied until now.

Camping in Sardinia

The cheapest accommodation option is camping. Sardinia has around 100 campsites, mostly by beaches. You can take your own tent or hire one there. Camper van facilities are also available. For a list of campsites or to book ahead write to
Centro Internazionale prenotazioni Capeggio
Casella Postale 23
50041
Calenzano
Firenze
Italy

We recommend the Lonely Planet Guide to Sardinia for more on the camping on the island. Available from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.

When to Go

July and August are high season in Sardinia. Avoid these months if at all possible: accomodation prices are often double. May, June and September are good months to go. The sea is warm in October but thunder storms likely.

Eating Out

The food is excellent: Italian with some peculiar Sard specialities. Don't be afraid to follow tiny signs down back roads to restaurants - you'll often be rewarded with an excellent meal in a beautiful location.

For more on where to stay in Sardinia we recommend these guide books. The Lonely Planet is better for budget accommodation.

Sardinia
by Dana Facaaros and Michael Pauls, Paperback, Cadogan Guides, 308 pages, (2004)
Very good on Sardinian history and cuisine. Includes the normal sections on getting there, opening hours, festivals, money, etc. Small amount on where to stay or eat but plenty of information on beaches, ancient sites, churches and general site-seeing. Recommended
